Gretsch g5120 Electromatic guitar for Jazz, Blues and Country guitarists

Gretsch guitars with their big hollow body, DeAramond  pickups, and tradition of quality and playability, makes a great combination for jazz, country or blues guitar players looking for a unique guitar sound.

The Gretsch 5120 electromatic fits the bill in terms of looks, comfort when playing, and it won’t break the bank – whilst still providing you with a guitar of superior tone and quality.

The DeAramond single coil pickups create a multitude of tones and sounds that suit a number of styles. Use the neck pickup exclusively for Jazz and get a real nice clean tone. Switch on both pickups and get a real meaty sound that would more suit a blues style.

The Gretsch 5120 is also well suited to Rockabilly and country styles making it very versatile. I like the fact that whatever genre you decide to end up playing this Gretsch still looks the part. And if you are anything like me – well some days I enjoy minor pentatonic blues and others I want to mess with myxolidian.

Changing the string gauge down to size 10’s makes string bending for blues players a lot easier on the fingers and help avoid a bit of tendinitis setting in, and this is pretty much all you might need to do – for Jazz leave them at gauge 11

The thumb nail markers on the edges of the fingerboard can take a little getting used to.  However once you have been playing the Gretsch 5120 electromatic for a week it all seems so natural -  you will forget you ever missed them in the first place. And its a good habit to break – relying on finger markers that is.

Other nice features are the Bigsby Vibrato tailpiece and Adjusto-matic bridge.

The slighter shorter scale of 24.56 inches on the Gretsch 5120 also suits jazz and blues players especially if you sit down to play – shorter neck seems to assist with any posture issues that may develop, makes forr a very comfortable playing guitar
